More Fabric

I innocently dropped in at Fabricland yesterday to buy a spool of white thread. What could be more bland than that. Oops! There was a sale of quilting fabric at buy one get the next 3 metres free. Then I spied the lovely Oriental looking piece and I was lost. I got 2 M of it and one of each of the others because the best part of the sale is that you don't have to buy 4M of the same fabric. There was a minimum of a 1M cut but who would want less than a metre anyway. The worst thing is that the sale is on for quite some time yet and I am almost sure to have to go back for more. Oh well, my stash is not all that big yet so I don't feel guilty. It's just the problem of which ones to take. There were at least a dozen others that I wanted but none as much as the oriental print. The next problem is what to do with it. How do you cut into something like that? I was even thinking of some item of clothing like a robe or skirt. Any ideas?

I hate it when that happens to me, go in for thread, come out with fabric. Sometimes I have even forgotten to buy the thread. No ideas on what to do but I agree, who could pass that up. I look forward to seeing what becomes. Sometimes it does take time so don't rush it.

What gorgeous fabric -- if you wanted to qulit it I'd do something like a BQ quilt with nice big feature pieces... For clothing a pop-top where the front panel was one piece would work to great effect.... It might also work wonderfully for a stack 'n whack quilt if that were of interest.... hmmmm lots of ideas but no I will NOT go to fabric land... (Maybe if I repeat it often enough I'll begin to beleive) :-)

I just did something similar at the market. I felt so stupid when I got home and had to turn around and go back because I forgot the item I went in to buy. I even had a list!

That is lovely fabric, & I agree it would seem a shame to cut it up.
Now you have got me all eager to go fabric patting!

You wouldn't believe how easy it is for me to spend a ton of money buying one spool of thread!

what a great sale. I don't think i would have come out of the store with only the thread in my hand either.LOL

Mmmm. The colors in that piece are so rich and gorgeous. (Did you get thread to match it?! LOL Or will you have to go back?!)

A skirt? A bag/purse? Or perhaps a reversible cape or jacket...with hand dyed fabric in those rich colors on the opposite? I know you'll come up with something extraordinary, Joyce! Make certain to tell us!

Did you say buy 1m get three more free? I can't believe you were so restrained Joyce!

I like Darcie's suggestions.

How about a table runner?

I hope you know I'm kidding! I've just spent two hours going through the whole Mavericks ring and I'm getting punchy. Fun to get caught up, though.

Oooh, that oriental print is beautiful! I've had fabrics like that -- that you just can't bear to cut. I don't know really how to cure the feeling -- but I agree that you should do something that really showcases the fabric. A bag would be great -- or something with large blocks of the oriental.

oh Joyce, that fabric is yummy! Yeah, I'd have a tough time cutting into it too! I like the other two that you bought too! Very nice. And I loved how you said you innocently walked into the store...I didn't believe that for one minute!! LOL
Looks like the sun is finally shining there in Manitoba!!

Rats ... you got a good deal! We don't have that sale here in Ontario at Fabricland. It's been a few years since they had that type of sale for quilting fabric.

That's what you are supposed to do Joyce! ( any one of us would have done the same ! )
