Sad News

My father passed away quietly in his sleep Sunday night. My brother phoned him every morning and when he didn't answer the call on Monday morning they knew something was wrong. He was 93 and still living independently. He always said that when his time came he wanted to go to bed some night and just not wake up in the morning. He got his wish. His worst fear was the hospital or assisted living. We are all thankful that he was spared that.
The funeral will be on Saturday so I will probably not be blogging until after that.
He was the best of Dads and Grandfathers and we will all miss him a lot.

So sorry to hear the news. To go in my own bed, in my sleep at a ripe old age is exactly how I want to go. What a blessing for him and you.

"He was the best of Dads and Grandfathers and we will all miss him a lot." There is no better tribute.

In the end I think all we can hope for is a good death. Sounds like he got that--which is also a blessing to you. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

How wonderful that he still lived independently to such a good age, and slipped away peacefully. It's the best we can hope for. Thinking of you.

My heart goes out to you. This will certainly be a difficult time for you and your family. How nice that he went peacefully in his sleep. It was the same with my grandmother.

Thoughts are with you Joyce.
What a good thing your father got his wish. It would be everyone's choice, & hopefully makes it a little easier to remember he went the way he wanted.

No matter how long they've lived and no matter how 'happy' they died, it's still sad for those who remain behind. I hope his funeral and afterwards are filled with warm and heart-felt memories Joyce.
