More Quilting

Yesterday I quilted the quilt with the black polka dot sashing and had no problems at all. I did straight line quilitng a quarter inch from the seams. That leads me to believe that my FM problems are one or more of the following:
a) poorly wound bobbin
b) poor quality thread
c) poor quilting technique.
I am betting on c. I think I may have been moving the fabric too fast for the speed of the machine. Oh for a stitch regulator!

Meanwhile I have started another wonky log cabin. My scrap pile seems to be growing again. Or is it merely a ploy to avoid the dreaded FM that needs to be done on the farm animals? I plan to do a bit of quilting on it every day before I allow myself to make any log cabin blocks. Am I strict enought to do that? Time will tell.

I love wonky log cabins and can't wait to see your progress on it. I have a few started myself. Now you will spur me on to finish them by watching yours.
As far as the FM quilting goes, I would try a stitch regulator before buying one. I personally didn't like the feel of it.
I accidently put my bobbin in backwards (counterclockwise) once and kept breaking thread. Once I changed it, it was fine.

Love the wonky log cabin. Colors marvelous. Hey, just work on which ever project you want to, whenever you want to. Why not?

I agree with Katie. You dont have to follow rules! I love the look of that wonky log cabin- love all the colours! what fun.
I FM'd around the border for SIL's quilt, & I found it very tiring, & a real learning curve. I need much more practise, & probably some good pointers. I bought a special foot for my machine, which did seem to help.

That's going to be one wild log cabin Joyce. I am a bit nervy about trying FM quilting on my little basic Janome. I want a big bad machine!

I can be of NO help when it comes to the quilting troubles - but boy do those log cabins look great. A wonderful diversion *S*

Clever looking L.C. LOVE it! Oh gosh, now I'll have to start one of those also! (there is no end in sight, is there).

Stitch regulator? ... Some days I get tired of wanting all the stuff we think we need ... I am kinda "passable" with my own two hands. And despite what the books tell you, I go relatively slowly. Piked up Diane Gaudynsky's book and that's what she says also. "Pinch" a little bit of fabric/quilt/batting at a time with right hand, do it, then stop, then repinch, etc. Good luck.

Love the wonky log cabins! As I'm not so much on the quilting end here can't help you with the FM. I can tell you I've started playing with practice sandwiches -- and it works best for me to go somewhere in between fast and slow...then again, I'm not very good :0)

It is so beautiful and colorful!

I know that longarm companies frown when I say this...but I think SRegulators actually "drag" a bit while one stitches. Maybe it's just me...or my machine. Although I absolutely love it...there are pros and cons.

Your Logs are so festive and fun! Makes me want to sew some up myself!

Love your wonky log cabins!
Do you "warm up" for your fm quilting first on a little quilt sandwich? I found that very helpful when I fist started fm quilting. I have tried the machines with the stitch regulators and don't like them. JMHO!
