New Bag and Log Cabin

I made another bag yesterday. This is a pattern from a Japanese magazine about making bags. Luckily the illustrations are very good so I could figure it out without reading the instructions , which are in Japanese. I ran out of both fabrics so I'll have to find something else to use for the straps. I have a long piece of strapping but it is black with red trim, not pink so it doesn't look right. Next time I'm at the thrift store I'll check out the purses. Many of them have handles that can be recycled. I have a neat piece of chain that looks fine but might not be very comfortable to wear.

I also got my wonky log cabin sewed together but I'm now stalled until I get some more batting. I really need a whole roll of it. There would probably be a lot less waste than buying precut packages. The biggest problem would be where to store it.

I love how you did the corners on your wonky cabin, they "surprise" me in their orientation, but really work well. :-)

The bag looks like a great one for school -- a good shape and size for books etc, and unique enough to find easily in the classroom chaos.

I love that cheery bag!
And the log cabin is fun. As Quilt Pixie says, it is the layout that is really extra interesting.

I like to buy the batting 96" wide by the yard at my local shop. That way it doesn't have all the wrinkles in it like it does in the bag. I usually get 5 yards at a time so there isn't a storage problem like a roll would be. I like the log cabin, it is cheery.

Both bags are really cute. I love the fabric that you used for the McCall bag - I bet it was cute made out of Jean fabric. Are you getting the grandkids all outfitted for their return to school?

Your log cabin is just great - it really have style *s*
I buy batting on the roll and stash it standing on end in the closet. It's really a joy to just have it there at the ready.

That purse is adorable! Good luck on the strapping hunt. Though there is a site that might have what you want:

She has lovely hand dyed fabrics but also does hand dyed cotton webbing! Great colors too.

The shower stall in the guest bath is the natural storage area for a roll of quilt batting, dontcha know that? :-)

The log cabin quilt is really nice.

I also, am thinking about purchasing batting by the roll ... where to store it? Hanging in the garage .... over my car (that's kinda my space). This quilting is getting out of control! lOL

Tracey's suggestion (above) is looking reasonable for some folks.)

Love your wonky log cabin. 8-)

Joyce you're on a roll! Love the wonky logs :)

You don't have an attic? Shall I be really ignorant and say I thought all North American houses have attics?!!!

Batting IS a bit bulky, isn't it? I have a whole roll of wool batting that I cherish as it's not made here any longer (only 40 million sheep, what do they DO with all the wool?)but it's 2 metres wide and takes up quite a lot of space.

I've been making some bags, too. Aren't they fun?!

Your log cabin quilt looks great!

Joyce - that log cabin is stunning. I love it. I used to cut a lot of denim - gave up after the second quilt - and found that one blade would do about 2 quilts. I read somewhere about buying blade sharpeners - cheaper in the long term!
