Party

Well, the party went off without a hitch. As is usual with potluck, there was way too much food so we are set for the week.

After eating we went up the hill to the stones and lit a big bonfire. This year the honors fell to a new (to us) neighbour from USA who happend to drop in. She lives in Wallhalla, ND and had seen the stones from the air. She decided to try to find them by car and she and her husband happened to arrive the day of the party. Talk about senedipity. They live only about 5 miles from us but there is an international border between us. It's so strage really.

After the center fire was burend down we all got lighters or matches and set fire to the dry grass ring around the stone circle. That always looks imressive but there was too much wind this year to have the teepee effect that we sometimes get. The good news is that the wind kept the mosquitoes at bay. Finally, as it began to get dark we set of some fireworks. The fun thing this year was there was such a variety of ages. The two youngest were just over a year old and the eldest was in her 80's.

It is so amazing that the couple from the U.S. came up on the day of the party. Great pictures. Where did the stones come from? What is the history of the stones? You didn't put them there did you? They are huge. A little mini Stonehenge.

Lovely photos. How serendipitous indeed that the over border neighbours found you!

Thanks for letting us 'be there' to enjoy it!

Wow this is cool :) Did the stones just happen to be there or did you guys place them? I wish I were your neighbor I'd crash the party too ;) xoxo melzie

Oooh! So much drama...very cool! Thanks for taking the time to snap the pics. I'll have to show my daughters...they love all of that folklore.

Sounds like a fantastic party -- and isn't living near the border strange? I used to live in Michigan -- going to Canada was an hour or two and a bridge, but it was also an international border. Just weird.
