Winter Wonders

It's a good day to be working on a winter quilt because it's snowing and quite cold outside.
I made two more Northern Lights blocks but I'm not totally satisfied with either of them. I may try one with a darker blue and the turquoise. I can still use the one with the pink too if I feel that the whole work is too cold and needs a touch of a warmer color. The color is really off it this picture. The background is actually white so you can see that everything has a brownish cast.

I still have lots of words that I plan to make including snowflake which may be accompanied by a snowflake block or some snowflake fabric. I have a fat quarter that has blue designs that look a lot like snowflakes. I just need to get the right off-white color to go with it.

I am working on a list of winter words but since I have called it Winter Wonders I'm thinking I'll stick to nature phenomena and not use sports like skiing and sledding.

hummm How about icicle? Maybe icy? I'm trying to think of a word to discribe the trees covered with ice and shinning in the sun. You words are going great!

Some day I would love to see the Northern Lights! Like your words/nature aspect of it... can't wait to see what other words you come up with!

Cheers!

I will be watching to see how you warm up the icy cold colors. I once started a quilt with icy colors and now it's a UFO because I couldn't figure how to do it.

looking at the quilt makes me long for the hot water bottle under my quilt :-) I can almost feel the frost on my eyelashes freezing them together...

The colour of the pieces you've got for northern lights looks pretty good (assuming I'm compensating for the brown right), I'm wondering if its the swirl pattern that's making it "wrong" more then the colour? Just a thought, 'cause there are lots of times that sort of swirl is exactly what you see....

I love the entire idea and I have to agree with using "natural" words as well. Hmmmn, there are all sorts of good winter words -- crisp, crunch, glitter (mustn't forget the discriptive words).

Of course, I want to see your list of words... lol

I bet icicle would look cold done in frosty fabrics and long skinny letters. :)

Icicle definitely. Sleet is a good one and, if today is anything to go by, freezing fog!

I'd love to see the Northern Lights. Have you read Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy?
