I decided that the loft door needed to be narrower but that meant that I wouldn't have enough fabric for the roof. I tried a couple of different options. The best one is pinned up and the others are to the sides. The other option would be to get some pure black or something that looks like shingles.

I like the fabric you put on top. I find binding sharp corners not that difficult. Maybe you could have a try on an odd shape of scraps and see wether you are happy with it. Or sew the whole quilt like an enveloppe with a hole to turn it around and then sew 1/4 inch from the border all around as a binding ersatz. I hope I could help you there. The quilt is very original and it was very interesting to see it develop. Thanks and take care.
Rather than bind the quilt, why don't you put a facing on it? That way you can poke and prod out the corners.
You've done lots since I was last by your blog. I LOVE!!!! how this quilt is looking. What a marvelous way to put your chicken blocks together. And the fox is hysterical!
For what it's worth, I think the fabric you have up there works and making the loft door narrower really works well. I can't wait to see what you do with the quilting on this one.
I absolutely LOVE how this quilt turned out. You should submit it to a quilting magazine!!!
I just love, love, love it! I like the choice you have pinned on top. And I"ve been so busy I just had time to check in - I LOVE what you did with the fox idea! It is PERFECT! I"m so in love with it. And the fox in itself is wonderful!
You sure did a marvelous job on this project! The roof is perfect, and the fox is even better! Hey, I remember a henhouse in my past, but it was a possum, or was it a skunk, or... raccoon?
Love it!
I like the fabric you have as the roof, it looks good. The fox is just so clever.
The fox looks amazing! and you did an awesome job on the top middle chicken, I think he hears something on the roof! great job!!
Joyce what a reward for finally stopping by after a week or so!!! Love the fox in the hen house! Perfect! Well done. So great this project!
And yes, you are very lucky having techy grandsons!
i've been away from the computer for a few days and look what i missed. Joyce, the chicken quilt is just fantastic! I'm always amazed at the quilts you make.
The fox is just inspired - love it!
You've put a BIG grin on my face with this quilt!
As for finishing, How about doing it in two steps. Bind the 3 bottom sides of the henhouse after it's quilted, then face the the roof leaving the bottom edge open. Turn it right-side-out and either hand or machine stitch the roof to the house. Maybe the quilting of the roof may need to be done after construction?
I love your decision. AND I love the fox watching the chicks - very funny.
uh oh, look out, chickens, look out. bad fox in the henhouse baaad. (but very well made!) looks great, J.
That's quite the chicken house. It's been so fun to watch it progress.
I just love it...and I think Nellie has a great idea with the finishing/quilting.
You do such fun pieces!!
The fox is great! How clever and well done! I like the roof you have on there. Can't wait to see this one finished.
I like the way your fox turned out, quite different from what I was thinking, but great!
You found the perfect color for him, too. ;)
