Yesterday, Canada Day, was the annual Debreuil family party which has been going on for more than 70 years. The claim is that it has never once rained on the party in all those years. I can vouch for the last 40 or more. It may rain in the morning or at night but during the party, which is always outside, it never rains. Yesterday was no exception. It threatened all day and rained all around us. Some places even got a huge downpour, but we sat outside all day eating, chatting and playing Belgian Bowling, known in the family as "Les Boules".
Today I was inspired to do a bit more dyeing so I tried a gradation in burgundy. I think the colors are a little bit too close so I am doing one now in olive. It is outside stewing in the sun right now.
I also tried tie bleaching. I wrapped a dark gray piece around a stone and soaked it in bleach. I left it in the bleach a bit too long but I really like the pattern and the color it bleached to. I will try one with weaker bleach or a shorter time. Actually, I forgot this one while I was making lunch or it would have been nicer. It has many possibilities for brightening up with thread or more dye , though, so I'll hang it on the design wall for a bit and think it over. It is about 18 inches square.

Your discharge dying turned out very interestingly. I love the added texture you seem to have achieved in the central area....
I like that grey piece, kind of reminds me of a misty impressionist piece...really cool.
Belated Happy Canada Day! and how nice that your family gets together every year. My paternal grandmother's family did that and I used to love to attend. As she got older, I would drive her to the event. When her generation died off, it ended, sadly.
Love your discharge piece. I have a few drying right now. Hope they will be good enough to photograph. I haven't had as dramatic luck as you have.

I'd say regarding computers to only buy a laptop if you plan on taking it somewhere - they're not as stable, powerful or reliable as desktops. Good luck choosing!

I kinda like the subtle shades in the burgundy too - but I love those quilts that seem to change color gradually from one corner to the other... I saw one that had a forest green background with pale yellow block pattern on one edge, then at the other edge it'd changed to deep orange pattern with a lighter green as background. Looked neat, but you'd have to have a couple of sets like you just made to do it. :)
