Quick Quilt

I got frustrated with my Out of the Block Quilt. It looks too orange with the triangles on the sides. I'm not sure what color needs to go there . Maybe just more blocks and then cut square even if it goes through a block. That's how it is done in the book but I'm not sure I like that.

In the end, I put it to the side and started sewing scraps together and in only a few hours came up with this scrappy quilt top. Here are the reasons I love this technique.
1. There is no thinking involved. You just grab whatever piece is handy.
2. It goes together incredibly fast.
3. There is no matching at all.
4. It always looks great no matter what you do.
5. It gets rid of some scraps.
6. It is true to the original idea of quilting; making do and making something from nothing.
7. It's great to practise machine quilitng on because the mistakes won't show.

Really, it's a wonder I ever do anything else.

Love the scrap quilt, I'm still working away on blocks for mine. Sigh. Not enough time to devote to anything it seems....

Have you auditioned some blue for the triangles? Something darker might really "frame" it... :-)

Sometimes letting things sit for awhile is the best way to see what it needs. Don't have any good suggestions for you; I'd just pull fabrics and see what happens.

I love mindless sewing. Just getting to the point where my scrap bins are big enough to start making wonderfully crazy blocks, and it is fun.

Sorry - don't have any suggestions either. Best thing is to let it lie.

I love love love scrappy happy quilts. I'm anxious to start on another one as I can't close the lid on my "bits box".

I really like that orange . . . it's a color that I don't often use, but from here it looks fresh and inviting *s*

I rather like the dark peach, Joyce. Perhaps you're just tired of the project. See how you feel on Monday.

Wow! Q-uick top!!! Good for you.

love that utility quilt - gorgeous. would be fun to see those kind of blocks mixed up together with the ones in the top photo.

Oh Yes! That scrap quilt is just my type of quilt. I find myself increasingly irritated by perfect carefully matched quilts. It is not how they originated.

Love the scrap quilt...they are quite addictive. Maybe some more contrast in the peach quilt would help?

It will come to you...

believe it or not, purple goes really well with orange, you might want to audition some purple borders........

Both quilts are great. It is good to have a couple of projects going that use different types of creativity as the desire strikes.
