New Project
I started putting the borders on my cat quilt but ran into problems. The top is over two inches narrower than the bottom. One of the perils of free piecing. I have put it away while I think about what to do. Quilt it as it is or add something somewhere or chop some off...
Meanwhile I made a few fun blocks using the ideas from Sandi Cummings' Thinking Outside the Block. It's a fun way to use up scraps and requires no precision sewing. It's just the thing for this kind of day. They are predicting plus 33 (91.4) with a possibility of thunder storms. Not my kind of weather. I prefer -33 with a blizzard. Then I'm cozy in the studio and get a lot done.

I have an idea on how to fix if it you don't mind adding another border. cut a wide strip maybe six inches for your border. lay it square around the other borders, and then underlap it around the quilt. take your rotary cutter and cut through both borders in a curvy way, and then sew the outside part of the new border to the curvy cut side of the quilt. square it up after you're done, and you'll have a curvy inner border that accommodates the wonkiness. if this isn't clear, I can try to explain by phone.
lol I'm with you, weatherwise.
So is it this collection of blocks that magically became a library bag?! Very cool!
You could just sew a wide border, and then square it off. Then add another border so you'd have straight outer edges. The first border would be wonky, but that's your style, right? It would be either conspicuous or inconspicuous, depending on how much value contrast you use.
Looking good Joyce! 8-)
Did you manage to hit a couple of quilt shops in Kelowna?
You've got our predicted weather, as well. And I'm back in Oregon, now. Almost makes me wish I was still in Alaska..even without my own sewing machine there. Love your story about the irregular quilt but you are so right...the perils of free piecing. Love it!!!
