On a Roll

After I finished the doggie quilt I couldn't resist playing around with my Australian fabrics again. Before I knew it, this was up on the design wall.
My main question is, does the blue and black strip on the right look too different or does in seem to belong?
Of course, there will be lots more bling before it's done but I don't want to sew it together until I'm sure about the blue/black strip.

Yes, I think that blue/black strip is a bit disturbing, but would be fine if you put another narrower strip of it to the left as well, somewhere. It's not the colour, but the balance that is affected, IMO.

Looking good, and so quick!

I also agree with the 2 learned ladies above. If you haven't got more of that same fabric, something else with a touch of that dark/ black would balance. Perhaps cut a couple of strips that are possibilities and pin them up to study for a while. I think photos sometimes tell our eye more than we are seeingby just looking.

To my eye, it all belongs but that's me. I gave this a couple really good looks, too. Oh. I just read the other comments. Well, leave it to me to be a bit different.

i think it's great fabric but maybe if you are going to have that dark of a piece it should go in the middle or maybe use two bits of it? i love it though cos it is so gorgeous with the pink so it would be nice to include it. So i guess you could fiddle around with the order or something and see if that changes how you feel about it!

I like the orange batik, wide pink, orange batik, purple as the focal point. I'd add a little more purple to the left of the 1st orange batik to balance everything out nicely. Then, I would add the widths of dark orange to whatever width you wanted on both sides.
