Back to Reality
I am finally back to quilting in earnest. I have done all the nine patches and sashing unless I decide to make it bigger. I must confess to getting a bit bored with all those little nine patches so I may just put a fairly large border on and call it a day. I suppose it will depend on how much it shrinks when I sew it together. I am always amazed how much smaller a quilt looks when it is sewn together. Those little quarter inch seams really add up. I'm not sure if I should spend some time arranging or just let it be. So far all I have done is to try to avoid having two colors the same touching.

This is really a great quilt! I'm always amazed with the 1/4" seams adding up, too.
If you've had enough of the nine-patches, go for a wide border :-)
No matter how long I stare at a quilt to keep 2 fabrics from showing up together, I always seem to find 1 missed -- after it's quilted and bound *s*
It will work fine if you leave it this size and add a border. For some reason, the pattern reminds me of woven Welsh quilts. I'm hopeless at 'arranging' so I just make sure that no two colours (or fabrics) touch and leave it at that.
Your quilt is looking really great!
Look forward to seeing the end result!
I'm with Libby too- no matter how hard you try, you seem to always discover touching colours after you have finished!
What you've got now looks really neat... you've obviously spent a lot of time on it.
I tend to dislike big plain borders, personally. I'd be tempted to piece a middle border between two smaller plain ones. I know you're tired of nine patches, but wouldn't it look good if you had a middle border that echoed the sashing, with matching 9 patches here and there on the sides and at the corners?
*evil grin* This late in the game, what's a few more blocks?
I love the scrappiness of this quilt. A simple border would probably be okay since it's so busy :-)
This is very pretty! I love pieced sashings. And I have to agree about those "little" 1/4" seams adding up! T
It certainly looks like you've put a lot of work into it. Maybe a fairky plain border of 2 wider strips with a smaller strip in the middle? That would sort of echo the 3 strips in the 9 patches.
So glad to have you back.
I like your 9 patch just like it is. that is with a border.
I wonder why it is that we always seem to be working on or looking at the same sort of thing. My last blog I shared "Grandma", the wool & flanal quilt my grandma made. It is my comfort quilt when I am ill. It is our extra warmth when it is cold out. What is funny I don't seem to ever have been aware that it was a 9 patch until we held it up to take a picture of it for my blog.
