City Words

First I want to thank everyone for all the helpful comments. You have given me a lot of good ideas and tons of encouragement. It means a lot to me.

Yesterday I put in the extra buildings to bring the city out to the border. I think it looks larger and less isolated. Then I sewed on the first border so that I would not be tempted to change the city again. Enough already!

Today I made some words. So far I am thinking of Hot City Night or maybe I'll add an S to make it nights.

I also tried different borders around the letters. I'll probably go with the dark brown that is the background for the letters, maybe not quite as wide as in the picture.

Then I may call it a day and start the quilting of this one. I still have to layer, pin and quilt the jungle which is much bigger than this one. I don't like to get too much quilting piled up ahead of me. It's very hard work doing FMQ and I can only handle an hour at a time, max.

I love this City Scape. It just seems so special. But then, so does the Jungle quilt.
I find my neck & shoulders get so tired & stiff doing the machine quilting. I need to get up & have frequent breaks too.

Like how you brought the buildings out to the edge. The fabric for the sky gives a nice gloomy, stormy effect. And the darker border is much more dramatic than the stridey black and white from your last post......wish I could be as focused as you and Meggie!

the expanded city changes it completely! I love it Joyce, you've done a great job... and adding the borders so you wouldn't play more sounds like a wise idea I may have to borrow from time to time ;-)

I love the new buildings on the sides - they really punch it up for me. and the pink and blue borders are great too. I really like the additional color.

Yep I agree. Those extra buildings make the whole city much bigger. It's looking great. The colours are bright and interesting....might be a pleasant place to live!

I think you are right, bringing the buildings out to the borders makes the city look less isolated. It's been fun to share your creative process. I can't wait to see it finished (at least to the flimsy stage).

Way to go Joyce! Changing the roofline and adding the buildings has really punched this piece up beautifully. The mottled purple-y border is perfect for it too. Great job.

It has been so much fun to watch the progression of this quilt - I keep having to scroll back and see what it used to look like before you added on to it. I like the Hot City Night - that is perfect.
