I think I have enough blocks to satisfy my colour cravings for the time being. I have to put it aside now until I go to town to get some fabric for sashing. I think it has to be dark navy and I don't have enough of that color. If anyone can see a different colour that might look good please say so.
I have decided that my next free form adventure might feature chickens. I saw a chicken quilt in one of my old magazines on which the chickens are all pieced. It may lend itself to wonkiness. I made one prototype but it's not quite what I want yet. I have included a picture of the magazine quilt but there is a bad glare on it and the magazine is out in the studio so this picture will have to do. Most of the chickens are quite dark and hidden so it's probably impossible to see all but the yellow one anyway. Some of them have their heads turned back and some have red wattles (if that is what they are called) and combs. Lots of scope for unusual fabric that is fussy cut here. I have a large pile of greens that cry out to be backgrounds for chickens. The quilt in the book also has some eggs which I think is a nice touch. It also has room for some interesting wonky words.

I would be tempted to continue the checkerboard pattern with the black and white fabrics. That would involve squares in the middle of each sashing between your wonderful bright blocks. The rest of the sashing could be the white. There could be a corner stone black block between the squares. This would really emphasize the checkerboard pattern, which may not be what you're after.
there's a wonderful "funky chicken" or maybe rooster, in Collaborative quilting that you could add too....

your blocks are coming along nicely. Nellie's suggestion could work but it's hard to say unless you see those colors beside your blocks. I thought perhaps navy blue may be too dark as the corner squares of some of the blocks look quite dark in the photo. What about medium blue or green?
Anyway, i'm sure it's going to look lovely no matter what you decide.
Somehow, I think I missed a week of you. It was fun to catch up though. I love the split 4 patches. I wish I had thought of that for the quilt I'm working on now. They look so pretty. And your color choices are so wonderful.
And I love the idea of your wonky chickens. I could just barely see the chicken you were talking about in the pic. Very cute! Can't wait to see how it goes.

That was fast! The blocks together look great. I can´t help you with the sashing though, maybe black and white? The chick looks funny, show us some more!

Your chicken is loads of fun. I've found that the first two or three blocks that I experiment with don't always turn out the way I want, but work great with the blocks that do. Experimentation and practise... It's gonna be a great quilt i'm sure.
