Quilt as you Go

Here are the finished paintings done by my three Granddaugters. Quite a talented trio I would say!

I am quilting this one block by block and then assembling it. It's easier to quilt but harder to assemble so I'm not that much farther ahead. The quilitng is more complex this way than I could ever do in a whole quilt.

I am using a pattern from this book by Keryn Emmerson of Quilting Twin.

There is a different fabric on the back of each block. I have tried to match the back to the front. I am afraid I might run out of the gray fabric before I am done. I had not planned on using it on the back when I bought it.

Those paintings by your granddaughters are wonderful!

I love the quilt as you go idea, I must look about for Keryn's book. I have never done any quilt as you go. My top is still hanging on the stair rail, waiting to be backed & prepared for quilting.
I havent done any sewing for a while.

Great to see the three Granddaughters paintings. Such a great space to paint you have there. What is it a painting of?

I have never tried the quilt as you go - but one day I cut all my batting scraps into 9 inch square - anticipating that I could use them for a quilt as you go. So they are there and ready :))

Great paintings - I think your husband must be a good teacher also. I have had that Quilt as You Go book on my wishlist on Amazon for a while.

3 talented girls - they obviously take after their Grandmother. I've been meaning to try QAYG for sometime now. What do you think of it?

Regarding the chickens ... When I saw them all, and you mentioned a chicken house/or coop, the first thing that popped into my head was that sign you see painted on farm buildins(in the south?) that says "See Rock City" !! (See why I don't get more done, with those off-subject images popping into my head all the time?)

Talented girls! Just looking at that scene, with its cool blues and greens has a calming effect...

You are lucky to have so talented and nice (about house cleaning)grand daughters. Your DH must be very good as well at teaching. What a family! I find QAYG particularly useful when machine quilting a difficult design. Your quilt is coming up nicely. I am sure the right border design will come sooner or later. Take care.

And look at the finished paintings - all so individual. And I love the studio - I have been to the Uffizi and seen the Rafaels. Inspiring stuff.
