Big News

Here is the quilt with a few more blocks and some transition blocks added. I was going to dye some fabric but I couldn't wait to see how it would look with the transition blocks so here it is with off white in the background. I may have to put those blocks aside and get some yellow or blue fabric. What do you think? Is the background too pale? I haven't done any arranging yet, just put them up as I finished them, so a different arrangement could change the look quite a bit too.
Now for the big news! Our daughter from Australia, Carmel, has been talking about coming home for a visit. This morning she called and said they got a flight that will arrive on Monday. We couldn't believe she got it all organized so fast. She has been on the computer almost steady for three or four days but she managed to get flights that worked for them. They'll be here until July. We are so excited!

what about just over dyeing the transition blocks you've made?

Maybe could keep these few pale transitions and just add in more colorful ones later. How fun to have your daughter for such a nice long visit.

I'm liking the off white in there. I like libby's suggestion of adding in more colorful ones too. I am of course thinking of it as a colorwash value transition into increasingly darker values of background as it gets to the outside edge.

I think they're pretty neat. ;)

I'll vote for transition blocks in different pale colors, with the stripes dark. Are you going to make all the stripes go the same way or some up/down and some left/right?

I'm not too sure about the background. Do you think you ought to pick out another colour other than the white? Perhaps a pale blue?

Woo hoo about Carmel. I bet you didn't think you'd so her so quickly after your Aussie adventures.

I like your quilt blocks and the idea of using a colourwash lighter in the centre and getting darker toward the borders for the transition blocks and the reverse for the feature blocks.

Wonderful to have your daughter coming home for a visit.

I saw your comment on Chookyblue's blog and thought I would visit you - I'm a lurker recently come out. I love your blocks, but your right the background blocks need something else. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Do you think you could over-dye or perhaps do some sort of dye painting on those transition blocks? To me, they'd need just a bit more color and life. Just my thoughts...I know whatever you choose to do will be perfect!

Hurray for your Aussies coming to visit!

I love it. Dynamic is the right word for it. I should buy that book.
