My Adventure

Last night we squeezed some lemons and oranges to make juice which I drank before going to bed. It was very strong and acidic so I didn't even finish it. About half an hour later, after I was in bed, I began to experience stomach cramps and pain. I thought it would just pass but it kept getting worse and worse. Finally at about 1 AM we called the hospital and they said to come in. (Thank you, Canada, for Medicare.) The pain was quite severe by this time and I could barely stand. In the end it was decided that I had severe gastritis, probably brought on by the lemon juice. Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach. They put me on intervenus and finally at about 3 AM they gave me a shot of morphine and one of Gravol. I was out like a light and when I woke up this morning I felt fine.
Today I have been catching up on my missed sleep and eating very mild food. The doctor said no coffee and that has been the worst after effect so far. It is not an experience I am eager to repeat so from now on the lemonade will be heavily diluted with water!

Sorry you had such a reaction. Glad your tummy is better today. I feared you would say you were having an appendicitis attack.

And your thrift store finds are terrific. Lucky you.

Never fails, the stuff you take to keep you healthy makes you sick... Glad you're better, though. Christine looked for you at the hospital, but I guess you'd already left.

Goodness, who knew lemon juice could cause that! So glad you have medicare too, & that you were able to get out, to the hospital. As I read, I was imagining you might be snowed in!

Our older digestive systems have their quirks to be sure. I know I can't digest what I used to. Glad you are OK.

Glad it wasn't anything real serious! I guess you won't be drinking any lemonade any time soon, eh? Take it easy, okay?

I'm glad you are feeling better now. The middle of the night always makes painworse in my experience.

I like the green in your scene - it adds something.....maybe even a hint of red somewhere...a toadstool, or some berries.....the wee touches of colour give it a lift. I like your idea there...are you going to do some more like this?

There used to be a lemon drink in the the UK called PLJ (pure lemon juice). It was lethal if drunk neat!
Hope your tum has recovered by now.
