My First Quilt

Camille at Simplify is hosting a Parade of Quilts featuring first and latest quilt. Pop on over to her blog if you want to join in.

This is the first full sized quilt, which I made in 2005. It was made with all Bali Batiks which cost me an arm and a leg! I still like it a lot although technically, it has some issues. I quilted it in sections using stitch in the ditch. The back is gray with a rainbow border and a black border.

This is my most recent completed piece. It is a small wall hanging, about 20 inches square.

In between these two quilts I have learned so much that I don't know where to begin. My biggest breakthrough was buying a mid-arm quilting frame and machine.
Much of what I now know, I learned from all those generous bloggers out there. Thank you all.

Well I can't see any technical issues from here. It's a beauty!

Both fantastic! I can't believe you made a full size quilt for your first quilt. Impressive!

Echoing Camille, I still haven't been brave enough to try a full-size quilt. Been practising on lots of little ones. LOL

I love your depression one. I'm glad you went with just the one embellishment. Perfect.

The colors and style remind me of my first as well.

Your first quilt looks spectacular!
Of course the latest quilt really speaks to me, & I was so pleased to see it again.

Its nice when art is also functional - its pretty, it contemporary, and yet keeps you warm! what more could you want? My daughter loves that it looks like square rainbows :)

Joyce,
It is a gorgeous first quilt- I love all the rich colors paired with the black.
My first quilt is in sad shape these days- still around but more holey than righteous as my mama might say... It was a log cabin quilt in a day -queen sized with double poly batt to make it poufy- It was like wrestling with a bear - I must have been crazy- I will chalk it up to being pregnant at the time. I didn't quilt for a long time after that ( 1987)
My newest piece is a " Trip around the world" with over 50 large quilts in between.
Isn't quilting fun- there is always so much to learn and experiment with- I have been seriously quilting?? since 1996- and have met wonderful quilters and made new friends because of the passion that we share making quilts..
Thanks for sharing all your lovely work..
Regards,
Anna

You definitely have come a very long way in a few years. It is amazing how we keep learning and evolving as time goes by.

I wondered a while back why I did not get more quilting done in my early years since I started in the 1980's (besides the fact I was raising kids and my husband traveled). Then I realized I only made bedsized quilts and hand quilted everything. No wonder! I got smarter after that.

Love your first quilt! Very geometric and colorful! And your recent little wallhanging is great, too! Thanks for sharing.

Our picnic quilt is one of my first ones and I noticed yesterday it even has some broken quilting threads -- I've been tempted to take the quilting out and redo it but I'm not sure what purpose it would serve. I love seeing it spread out in the park in spite of it's imperfections.
