Hand Quilting

Here is what I have done so far on the Double Irish Chain. It's going faster than I thought it might but it is always that way at first. You want to see how it will look but by the time you are on the hundredth Baptist Fan or second mile of straight stitching you are pretty much over it. At least that's how it works for me.
A few people mentioned my quilting frame. I got it second hand at a craft sale (selling leftover craft supplies, not finished crafts) which is held every year near where I live. There are usually lots of quilting books and fabrics so I like to go. The frame looks like it is home made and it is very sturdy. It has neat little wheels with cogs on each end to tighten the quilt. I love being able to have my quilt all set up ready to work on at any time, even for a few minutes while waiting for supper to cook or the bread to rise. It's either that or Blogging. Hmm...maybe it woud go faster if I spent less time blogging and more time quilting. Not likely to happen!

Joyce, do you hand quilt "free hand" or mark it on the quilt before hand? You are making great progress.

I'm like you and grab my sewing time in bits and pieces... it does help to have something all set up and ready to go! I find that I get alot accomplished this way... your progress is very nice!

Cheers!

Joyce thank you for this post. I am struggling for inspiration with my hand quilting at the moment - so it's good to see how you do it.

I think I might do the baptist fans in my fat border too.

Will have to find my chalk to mark out the lines :)

Looking good, it's nice to be able to have your work out and accessible all the time.

Hey, that craft sale sounds great!!! I wish there was one around here. I could sell AND buy!

I missed commenting on your log cabin post -- no great ideas for quilting, but I will be checking back to see how you quilt it. I have a wonky log cabin table runner that I am trying to figure out how to quilt.

good to see the progress on your quilt. Before you know it you'll have finished. I've noticed a few bloggers that have done Baptist Fans as their quilting. Perhaps i will have to try it.

Are you doing precise Baptist fans or are you doing Tonya's freehand ones?
I have a Hinterberg floor hoop that DH bought for Christmas one year. It's only for display now. I think we should all do just a little hand quilting, just to do it. Know what I mean?

Thanks for talking about the quilt frame. I always love to see close-ups of great frames.

The hand quilting is going great so far, but I can see what you mean about the new-ness going fast and the finish going slower! Always works that way doesn't it!!
