NinePatch Done!

I grabbed a few spare minutes this morning to finish the binding on the NinePatch. I had a long piece of bias cut binding so I thought I'd try round corners on this one. It sort of softens up the squares of the piecing and goes with the round pattern on the border quilting. It is large enough for a topper on my queen bed but it will probably be a sofa quilt. I am not really happy with the quilting. It stretched out of shape a bit on the first couple of rows of stitching. Then I did free motion on the borders. I am still learning FM as you can see on the close up. It was good practise though so it is not a total loss. Now I have to wash it to see if the marking comes out. I just hate washing new quilts but I think I will have to on this one so I will know if it is safet to use the blue carpenter's chalk for marking on white.
Now off to do some more cooking.
Merry Christmas to all you bloggers out there. Have a good one!

Your quilting looks just fine. We all must go through that learning curve and every quilt looks better. What I recommend is that you wash it in hot or very warm water and put it in a hot dryer so the fabric shrinks up a little around the machine stitching. That makes the stitching itself less noticible and only the shadow definition it creates really shows. That's what Harriet Hargrave does, and the quilts I saw of hers years ago when I took a machine quilting class from hers looked hand done unless one looked VERY closely.

Well done! You finished your Nine Patch Path before me. Mine keeps growing in size--right now I am thinking I need another row. I like the addition of borders on your quilt. I know the pattern in the magazine was without borders, but I really like the addition of a border to bring everything together--kind of reins everything in. Patti has good advice about quilting--I too wash up my quilts after they are quilted--especially when my SID is not quite in the ditch. After washing and drying, you can not tell.

I think you did a good job of the quilting.
I think the border is just right.

Wow - I really admire you that you stuck to your guns and finished the entire quilt including quilting and binding! It looks great and I don't think you will be able to see any wobbly lines after a good washing!

Cheers!

Your soft curves of quilting are a lovely mix with the angles of the 9-Patches. You've done a wonderful job, Joyce! Enjoy!

I like the way washing them makes them look too, softer, somehow. :)

The top came out great, and the round corners and your quilting in the border really adds to it!

All looking great Joyce. How did you manage all this just before Christmas? I am sitting here with my mouth open over all these 'wash really hot and dry in the drier instructions'-I am obviously far too soft on my quilts!! Hope Christmas was great, Tracey
