Back to the Stars

When we were in Winnipeg yesterday I stopped in Fabricland to see if I could find any border fabric since it seems that Joannes has no more of the one I really wanted. It's the one on the left side. The top left is a hand dyed piece that I made last week. I like it but maybe it is a bit dull. The one on the top right is the piece I bought yesterday. I like the color but the pattern seems a bit rigid and square. I might try a second dye session to see if I can get a bit more contrast between the yellow and brown. On this one the brown pretty well covered the yellow.

Of course, you can't go to a fabric store and only get one piece. The picture is much more dull than the real fabric. The one in the middle has a nice golden glow. The rainbows are much much brighter. They will find their way into my next wonky quilt I'm sure.

I like the fabric you got yesterday. To my eye it works with your quilt. The tight even geometric pattern of that inner border complements the strong open geometric pattern of your quilt. I love the batik you've chosen for the wide outer border.

too bad you've been unable to find more the fabric you really wanted for the border.... I rather like your hand dyed, but at that width can see how more contrast would be desired... Have you explored narrowing the inner border to a very thin strip?

Have your checked JoAnn's on line. They might have the fabric you are looking for.

What a beautiful quilt! Just to confuse the matter, I actually like the one you hand dyed but I would make it a narrow border - maybe a inch. I can't say that I like it tons better than the other - either one would be successful. The outer border fabric is absolutely perfect!

Love the outer border fabric. I feel either of the darker inner border fabric to be ok. It looks lovely.

What fun fabrics you got. Can't wait to see how you use them. Have fun with the dyeing. Inow know how much fun that can be.

This quilt is one of my favorites; and I think your fabric choice for the border works. Agree with the comments to make it narrow.

Oh shucks...isn't that the way these things go sometimes? Perhaps an online check may help you locate more?

The golden fabrics are really making this quilt sparkle! And that batik is fabulous!

What does the "wrong" side of your strong patterned inner border look like? Would that work?

I know you'll find the 'right' solution - we always do! LOL

That quilt is one of my favorite patterns, but yet not made by me. Your's is so pretty. You do beautiful work and any/all of those fabrics for the border look great.

Hang in there . . . the perfect border will make itself known - just when you least expect it.

It's just too awful when that happens. I'd look online for it. You never know.

I love that rainbow fabric. Knowing you it is destined to be part of a beautiful quilt.
