Dragon Quilting

Here is the paper copy of my dragon from the fabric. Sorry about the poor pictures but it's not very bright today and I had to use the flash.

This is how it will look on the black border fabric. It doesn't show up much, which is good.

Here it is from the back. I used gray on the back so I could see how it really looks. I learned that I will have to draw it on with sharp chalk and not just depend on the dots. It gets too confusing around the face and feet. I will have to do it upside down on the quilt so that will be a whole other challenge. I will probably put two on each side, facing each other and fill it in with flames and meanders. The big question is, does anyone want fighting dragons on their bed? Would you be able to sleep without nightmares???/

wow! It looks great. I like the borders too. a great solution, and it looks like it was designed that way.

The dragon looks great! Now, about anyone wanting dragons on their bed? Apparently, everywhere but the Western World considers dragons to be good guys, the keepers of wisdom. Hey. I think I'd better make a dragon quilt for my son... maybe give him a bit of a wisdom boost (or boot)... ;-)

dragons on my bed would give wonderful dreams! I've got just enough eastern culture to see them as messangers of hope, of love, of good fortune... Think thye'll be absolutely stunning on the borders...

The dragon is such a good choice, and this is a beautiful dragon. If you're going for precision rather than freedom in stitching the dragon, and with that detail I would guess you are, upside down might help. I took a drawing class where we had to copy things upside down, ignoring what they might be, and to everyone's amazement, we all did so much better that way.

Oh my, it's really dramatic and simply gorgeous! I would LOVE dragons on my bed - strong, eternal, keepers of wisdom, I believe.

It's interesting hearing about how you will quilt it, upside down, a solid line or dotted, etc. Just a teensy bit more difficult than drawing it in the first place.

This is so beautiful! It is going to be a wonderful quilt. When I quilt motifs, I trace them out on freezer paper, and simply press the freezer paper in place. Then I sew through the paper and the fabric. I gently rip off the paper, and there are no markings left. For me, it is faster than trying to trace a motif directly on the fabric.

I'm one of those people who collect dragons. I have drawn, embroidered, glass, bronze, pewter, ceramic, and clay. I love my dragons. You should make one of the dragons a three-toed Imperial dragon for good luck.

Hi Joyce,

Just came across your blog and fell about laughing at the quote on your profile, in particular the reference to chocolate - mind if I pinch it?!!

I too did quite a bit of silk painting a few years back and I did batik at school, which I loved. I'd have a go now, but it makes such a mess.

Is this a welsh dragon you're working on - only ask because I'm half welsh?
