Dark Skies

This morning I quilted Dark Skies and I'm now ready to put the envelope backing on. I am wondering about the tails hanging down. Are there too many? Do they have enough relationship to the piece or would it look better without them? I have lots of embellishments to put on the body of the piece too. When is it too much? I always have a problem knowing when it's done. By the way, this one is about 20 inches square.

This is just my opinion, which I really hate giving but since you asked.....I think the tails distract from the quilt. When I look at it my mind goes to Dark Skies like the name and all kinds of thoughts creep in. But then the tails sort of jerk me back and I don't see the relationship. Again, only my opinion right now....and it could change!!!! I hope you just take the above for what it's worth....which is nothing since it's your beautiful work!

Beautiful! This is really lovely. I tried to imagine it without the tassles, and I think it would work well that way -- but it works for me like this, too. I have no idea when to stop. I often think you're finished and you're not -- and then I like what you've added!

Joyce you're really making this style your own. I never know when too much is enough either. Or not enough! I would give it a try without the one that's third from the right...

I really like your piece. My eyes are drawn to the tails first and then later into the quilt. Additional embellishments may be just the thing to add balance to the piece.

I double-clicked and noticed that the tails with round beads seem to flow better out of the piece than the others. Repetition of shape. Odd numbers often work better than even, but there are four squares. Try covering them in the photo with a piece of paper. One (2nd from right) might even be dramatic?

Great creative juices goin here!

Very cool quilt! I like the hanging embellishment on the left side of the quilt. The tails at the bottom might be a few too many. I do see them before seeing the inner quilt. And the quilt itself is sooo very intriguing & lovely on its own.
Maybe just 3 tails? You could line one up with your center line and the other 2 at the corners...just edged out a bit more than they are now to help your eye take in the whole quilt. Just thoughts in case you are going to play with the layout more. The photo idea above is a good one. Always helps me with designs.
