More Village

First, for a bit of a change, here are a few pages from some art books from China. Their designs are fantastic. If I were into applique I would use some for sure, at least as a starting point. Maybe I will do some fusing using some of their ideas. There are several pages of borders too that are very interesting. Maybe I will take more photos tomorrow.

Today I made some checker strips and sewed them onto the village but now I am not so sure about it. The comment I got was that it changed it from a jungle look to more of an urban look. I think that is right so the checks may have to find a different home. I had exactly enough fabric and in fact, the last two black squares had to be pieced. I am planning to back the dotted fabric with interfacing so I can use it. I really like that fabric. So, it may go where the checks are or if I go to town I might look for something that appeals to me more. Luckily, it's not time wasted because you can never have too much in your parts department. I really like the looks of the triangles on the pinkish fabric so I will make some more of that and do a lot more trees.

Yeah, I agree about the checkers. Maybe something more organic would work better. But love this one!!

Well, now, there is the urban jungle . . .

Like nines I think its the linear nature of the checks... the rest is quite organic, and I like the idea of a walkway joining the houses

I happen to like the checks. You could make some association between the black/white checks and zebra stripes!

So sorry the checkers didn't work, but you are right. I think using the interfacing is a perfect solution.

I like the sunflower fabric under the first row of houses but haven't got any suggestions to replace the chequered fabrics.

I agree with Lois. I like it.

i think it looks very nice the way it is. you also have a striped border, why not leave the checks where they are... a very beautiful quilt, indeed.

I like the checkered fabric. If you love how the quilt looks with it, then use it. Don't worry about urban or jungle - just enjoy it. I love seeing each and every shot of the quilt in progress - never get bored with that. Have fun shopping for fabric.

I love that statement "you can never have too much in your parts department" Too true!

It is not always the end result that is important but the journey. Enjoy the journey.

I wonder if the checkerboard might work in softer colors, maybe batiks? The black & white might have been too stark.

I really like the spots, somehow. Go with your feelings- you wont go wrong.
It is a very interesting quilt indeed.
I love making quilts like this, in a progressive way, making it up as you go along.

i dont mind the black and white checks but what ever you decided will make the quilt look fantastic. Keep on showing those photos. I enjoy watching the progress.
