Braid Quilt

Today I assembled the braid quilt. I had it all together except the top and bottom borders when I noticed that two of the braids are facing in a different direction from the others. My question now is, do I undo all those bias seams to turn the two that are different? I do like the way the colors look the way it is now, but I'm pretty sure the mistake will bug me forever.

Later: Looking at the picture, I might be able to get away with undoing only two seams. What do you think?

Usually I take the 'leave it and be happy' attitude . . . this one I would probably change, but instead of making them all one way how about down, up, down, up, down?

I had to scroll back to your original photo/layout to compare - and I really like the way you have it sewn together now... the colors are really nice. It seems like you did it on purpose - the hot colors going up toward the sun and the cool colors going down toward the sea... but if it bugs you then fix it the you envisioned.

Cheers!

Ohhh, I didn't realise you wanted them all going the same way. I thought that you were going for one down, then one up etc ... I thought the one on the far right side was the odd one out.
It looks entirely wonderful to me in any case.

I probably would have said change it... and two seams would do it for me, but it would change the sequence of colors, which I like now. Then I re-read your post and saw that 'B' word. I'm not sure I would battle the bias tiger.

I like the way it is. I agree with Starfishy. It is your quilt though and if it bugs you I guess you need to change it.

I love it as is!

My 2 cents: Each row of colors is unique with the 2 most similar golden rows heading north, and with the 2 rows on the right each being so unlike in both their colors and in the speed of their progression, I think it balances perfectly the way it is...color-wise, "weight"-wise, movement-wise. It is a striking and beautiful quilt. :-)

I agree with the other commenters. It looks wonderful and until you said that rows were going the wrong way, I did not notice. I took a workshop with Alex Anderson. She said if it is bias, and you know what a B word that is for her, you have two choices live with it or start over. I could certainly live with that beautiful quilt. Mary

Undo?? no-no-no, life is too short to undo! If you wanted to make it look totally deliberate, you could gild the lily by adding edge-to-edge quilting - or thin appliqued strips (or both!) - that followed the lines on the braids; hmm, how to explain this - down to the point on the first strip, up to the point on the third, down to the point on either the fourth or the fifth, then up again to the edge.

I like it just the way it is - having them all facing the same way is too uniform - I think this gives a bit of pizazz to the whole layout.

I rather like how it looks, but know if I had a plan and it wasn't what I'd planned I'd probably back track and do it "right" -- its really a question of whether it'll always scream at you...

I agree with the "leave it" group. I think the different directions give it more motion than if they were all facing the same way. Beautiful work.

I agree with Evelyn - it's BETTEr this way - all going in the same direction is just too expected.
