Puzzle Solved

I now realize what happened to leave me with two blocks the same side by side. There is one more block with orange on the outside. That means that I should have started with the opposite color. I realized that when I put the first set of blocks up on the design wall but when I put up the final arrangement, I was concerned with getting the middle blocks upright. There are little birds on some of them and I wanted them all facing the same way. If that explanation is not clear go back a couple of days and see how it looked with only the first set of blocks. The only way to correct this one would be to take every single block apart. Not gonna happen. This will have to be my Amish mistake.
I have most of it sewn together now and have to start thinking about the binding. The quilting is going to have to be some sort of motif in the middle of the blocks because there are so many layers where all the points meet that it would be very difficult to quilt, especially given that there is all that dry glue there too. I can barely get a pin through it.
By the way, in case you can't find it, the mistake is on the lower right hand corner.

planning to quilt motifs makes a lot of sense given the complications sewing through the corners would present... maybe a variety of flowers and birds to compliment the fabric?

"Amish" mistake or not -- this one is looking like such fun. I love the colors you chose! Hmmnn...as for a center motif -- what about butterflies or something "flying" from block to block?

Without knowing what I should have "expected", I certainly can't see any mistake even with the explanation. It's another of those "didn't meet my expectations" quilts for you, but a beauty for the rest of us.

You were lucky that you spotted the mistake early enough to rectify it. I usually realise that there's a problem as I am quilting or binding it, and I'm not enough of a perfectionist to change it at that stage! I love the orange and green together - it looks great!

Joyce, I love the braid and the twisted quilt. Twisting blocks is one of my favorite settings.

I know you feel it's a mistake because you had something different in mind-it looks great to my eye! This really turned out great.

It's good that you figured out the mistake - for future use - but nobody is going to notice it on this quilt. And if some quiltzilla does notice it, you can tell her you are a quilt maverick, and had to do it to fit into the group.
