Possibilities

I tried some stamping using gold fabric paint. The first one is a stamp I made from a large eraser. I need a better tool than the mat knife (box cutter) that I used. Maybe some sort of wood working tool?

This is from a thrift store stamp that was in a bag with some paints.

Right now I am trying different arrangements for the second circle quilt. This is the first one.

Here is the second one. I tried to make this one a bit more orderly going from darker in the middle to lighter at the edges. I may possibly need one more row on the right side. I like the red/orange small border. I had thought of using the large checks from my parts drawer but I felt that they were too overpowering. Now I wonder if I need a touch of the orange somewhere in the body of the quilt. I don't have much of it left but I would have enough to make at least one circle or part of one.

Honest opinion? I like the first one best and solid red narrow border...no red inside. In my humble opinion the yellow takes away from the white which stands out with the black and solid border! It's strikingly beautiful.

You want to get either a v-gouge or a u-gouge carving tool. There is even one of these tools in small manicure sets -- think removing cuticles. These tools are perfect for carving stamps.

Linoleum cutting tools may work. I just ordered a set from Dharma and they were relatively inexpensive.

Joyce, I can't say exactly why, but I like the first layout better--it's the way the blocks bump into the border--much better in my opinion. For the eraser carving, see if you can find linoleum block cutters those will work, as long as they're sharp. Here's a set from Dick Blick http://www.dickblick.com/products/speedball-linoleum-cutters/

I like your first layout Joyce. It has a much more random feel/look to it...
I like the red... 8-)
Just my 2 cents worth...

I like the first layout and the orange as a border, but you don't need it in the body of the quilt.

I love the off-the-edge layout.

That first one is perfect. I also love the orange border. Not sure about putting orange inside. It is so perfect now. The off edge layout is great. I learn so much from your art.

I like the first one too. On the second one, my eye stops at the top white-dotted-black triangle. Maybe it is just because your trial border does too, but when I cover the orange with my hand, I keep wanting to move that triangle, or maybe trade it with the one on the right side. Keep fiddling. You are doing well with these!

You did a great job with stamping on fabric. I found that method hardest in the class I took last fall.
I like the orange border. I can't wait to see what you decide.
