16 Patch Quilt

This morning before I went of for my weekly thrift run, I sewed the 16 Patch together. It is huge. The design wall is 8x10 and it pretty well fills it up. Therefore, I think I'll only put a black border around it. I wouldn't put a border at all except that the half pinwheels all finish with bias seams so without a border it would stretch all out of shape on the frame. I spent some time re-arranging and then re-re-aranging but finally I just gave up and sewed it together.

I just LOVE this quilt. It's simple but so effective! I'm so glad you put the black border. I was taught a rule to never to put a border that has the fabric used in an outer block, but in this case it gives a very neat shape when the blacks come together -- the edge is much edgier, so to speak, really interesting there where you have the black strip. I guess we know what to do with that rule now ... :)

If you staystitch (like in garment sewing) around the outside edge you don't need to put a border on because the stitching will keep it from stretching.

Great work. That went together very quickly. It came together very well.the black border finishes it nicely.

How did that lowly 4-patch turn into such an interesting and dramatic quilt? Amazing how much a person's creativity adds to the final project! Good job girl!

The pinwheel blocks are perfect! A simple border sounds about right - there's so much going on to oooh and aaahh over already.

Yay, you!

It's been awesome watching this evolve! It's really nice! And the lay out is perfect! But wait...something's missing.....what about your daily cuff?? Are they on the back burner now or are you just not showing them? lol

I LOVE your fix for the 16 patch alternate blocks!!! The pinwheels are per-fect!

Have you added the border yet? Do you think a zinger (border) would steady the edges enough?

Happy weekend, Joyce!
