Ethnic Shopping
Yesterday two of my friends and I went shopping in ethnic grocery stores in Winnipeg. We went to and Indian one, a Chinese one and an African one. These are a few of the spices etc that I bought. The ladies running the stores were so helpful, giving us ideas of how to use some of the ingredients. The Indian lady even offered cooking lessons sometime when we have a day to spare.
We had lunch in a wonderful Indian restaurant (The Clay Oven on Kenaston for those of you who are local) which was one of the best meals I have ever had in a restaurant. Too bad none of us thought of taking a picture before we started eating.
Of course, I had to stop at a fabric store for a few minutes on the way home to get backing for a quilt. It was a really fun day.

Any cardamom? The Finns use it in making a coffee bread and my favourite is cardamom cake. I have to go find some - I'm on a mission.
I love Indian food - have only had it once but I loved it! And you might tell Dolores who commented above that I find cardamom in the health food store. The one I frequent has bulk spices and they carry it. It's one of the ingredients in my chai tea. blessings, marlene
Nothing beats a really good curry.
I spy Mustard Seeds.
A delightful Indian lady won $10,000 on a morning TV show, & she was so lovely they invited her to be on the show, to teach them how to make Butter Chicken. She was truly photogenic, and ideal on TV, so she appeared with her beautiful daughter, & cooked the food. I am more fond of Indian Vegetarian dishes than meat.

A fabulous day: Friends. Food. Fabric. Fun. ;-)
And thanks for the review of The Clay Oven. My daughters are talking about how much they'd love to go to Winnipeg this coming summer for their birthday...so collecting destinations may be a good idea....
