Mistakes

I put the K Quilt to the side for the moment and concentrated on finishing some quilting on the big machine. I finally finished this autumn wall hanging. I love the letters but am less crazy about the landscape. I thought doing a landscape quilt would be fun but I find it's not for me. The orange bushes in the front look unfortunately like fire. I thought I could improve it with quilting but not so. I must have changed top threads fifty times while quilting this one. At least I am getting faster at threading the machine.

This morning I finally tackled quilting the braid one. I was super careful loading it but not quite thinking enough. I usually load them sideways so that I have long rows but fewer of them. Unfortunately, that doesn't work on this one because I have to go the same direction as the braids. I finished the first row along the border and when I unrolled the quilt one turn I realized that it wasn't going to work at all. Now I can either rip out the tiny, intricate pattern or hand baste it and treat it as one thickness rather than rolling the back and front separately. I'm not at all sure that will work though and I may end up with lots and lots more ripping out. I also thought of basting it on the machine with water soluble thread if I can find any in the stores around here. Maybe I'll just go back to bed for the day!

*rats* sometimes it's just better to put it aside and come back with fresh eyes another day *s*

Oh, how frustrating! But the quilts are lovely -- the words are so nicely done, and the braid quilt just glows. Hope it goes better for you next try.

I agree, walk away then back later, but you sure did a great job on both, even the landscape one, don't give up....Lie

sigh. Some days just go like that... I'd go for renting a couple of movies and ripping out the border at this point, but the tediousness of it all would be very discouraging... Smile. There'll be another day :-)

maybe it would be possible to add paint or ink to the orange shrubs in front on the landscape? It IS a fun quilt and you learned from making it - that's always good.

On days like those I sometimes wonder if it is worth even getting out of bed!

That's a good idea of Tonya's.

Well, first I looked at the quilt - then read your text. Funny thing is that I did think they were burning bushes and it was sort-ov a play on words - the SMOKY hills! So, while it may not be what YOU intended, the viewer would never know that. I think it is really arty! Good luck with your braid quilting project.
Cheers!

I think your Autumn wallhanging is gorgeous, and I agree with the comment to just say those are burning bushes! Your braid is very pretty, I love the colors. The K quilt........oh my. What a lot of work, but it is BEAUTIFUL!

I have a friend with a set up similar to yours and she always hand bastes and then loads the 3 layers as one. She feels it is more accurate.
