More K Quilt
Here is the K Quilt sewn together but another problem has arisen. It is about 86 X 50 which is very long and narrow. I should have made strips of 14 or 15 half hexagons instead of 9 as I did. It's impossible to change it now, especially since I used glue on the bias seams. It would stretch them a lot and I'd have to undo half the quilt. I'm not much for undoing at the best of times. Right now I am thinking I'll put a black border about 4 or 5 inches wide on each end. The sides will have to have a wider black, a narrow red and then a wide black again. I'm not sure how that will look but I can't see any other way right now. If I were better at appliqué I'd think of putting one of the dragons on each side but I'm not. Maybe machine appliqué?? I'll lay it out on the bed with the borders and see how that looks before I despair. I will have to find the right red first though and that could be a challenge. Maybe I'll get my dyes out again and try that way.
The bright color in the corner is not part of the quilt. It's a piece of hand dyed fabric that is covering my old treadle sewing machine. It was one of those fabrics that is too nice to cut into.

This is really neat. Is there anyway you can just add to it and make it wider that way. Add more rows? I really like the quilt.
They always say that this is the sort of challenge that turns on one's creativity. ("They" can be really annoying at times.) I must say that I love the dragon applique idea -- sounds both elegant and dramatic, which suits this quilt.
I imagine the black border, without or without either some of the 3D squares or dragon applique, or hexagon quilting will look wonderful...
I'm in Awe, this turned out so good..for the borders I agree with you, just add few inches more on the top & bottom , this makes it your own and boy that is surely pretty.....great work Lise
I looks great Joyce!!! Love the effect!
Can you not make some more hexagons and add another couple of rows of them to make it wider?
A black and red boarder will finish it off nicely.
Oh my - it's just fantastic. I love the cubes that appear - it's like magic.
